Non-Profit

Both Friends of the New Horizons Band (FNHBCOS) and Colorado Instrumental Music Association (CIMA) are non-profits that support the New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs. Why (2) non-profits, you ask? FNHBCOS was formed early on when the New Horizons movement was very new in Colorado Springs. CIMA, on the other hand, is the private venture of Ed and Mary (Nuccio) and some day, some year it will likely replace FNHB.

Meanwhile, NHBCOS operates almost exclusively under the auspices of FNHBCOS.

Both of the groups are in good standing with the office of the Secretary of State of the State of Colorado and are recognized as 501(c)(3) public charitable organizations. FNHB has been assigned the identification number 20021349195, while CIMA's EIN is 20081549164.

The organizations' mission statements are essentially the same:
To provide an entry point for lifelong learning of music in a welcoming group setting, ideal for all adults, regardless of past musical experience, resulting in a positive difference in the lives of participants.

By accepting donations, the following expenses are covered:
  • Purchasing of instruments necessary for the bands
  • Purchasing of music for band members to read/perform
  • Purchasing of necessary equipment for band member use
  • Increasing public awareness of the opportunity available to adults
  • Paying for local 'experts' to assist members in furthering their progress and understanding of their band instruments
  • Assisting in the payment of the rehearsal hall rent
  • Paying for necessary printing and advertising
Funding from individual donors, business donors, and charitable foundations enables both Friends and CIMA to function successfully in their role as support organizations.
