NOTES FROM ED:
MUSIC FOR ALL AGES!!!!!
Ed SEZ:
How fortunate we are to have begun our association with adult learning of instrumental music! And, because we have encouraged our band members to not just learn to play certain pieces of music to perform but, instead, (thru a fairly encompassing adherence to transferable elements, skills, and fundamentals), to become knowledgeable, active, makers of music…our sight-reading skills have improved in all bands to where most consider it one of their favorite phases of our rehearsals. This is thrilling for me as I have always considered this to be the most rewarding aspects of teaching instrumental music…well beyond the import of memorizing a performance(so to speak). I hope you visualize my level of excitement!
The interest in NHBCOS is at an all-time high and for that we are so very happy. The new, 18-to-39-year-olds’ band is continuing to grow at a steady rate... with plans to have it break off on its own in the future. We are extremely pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for folks in that age group with a place to play band music.
Also, very exciting is the ability of NHBCOS to provide both day and evening rehearsals for most all levels making it possible for anyone to find a band rehearsal to fit their individual schedule.
The success of several Fundraiser events has made it possible for our support organization, Friends of the New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs, to purchase needed equipment which allows us to totally function in two separate venues. One venue provides rehearsal space for our day bands and our evening jazz group, while the second beautifully houses our remaining evening bands. If anyone reading this would like to contribute to the ‘Friends’ organization, you are directed to our web site www.nhbcosmusic.com and select the SUPPORT CIMA button where you will find a Donor Form. We thank you in advance for your willingness to monetarily assist this most worthwhile activity.
We also look forward to another exciting and successful semester. The Informational Coffees which are upcoming should be very well-attended, and we hope to add 15-20 new members to our various bands as a result of them. The more people who find us and are re-introduced to instrumental music, the happier we are!
We are now beginning to scout out new tunes for our upcoming months, and we hope you and your friends, neighbors, and relatives will be watching and waiting for our next public events.
Thanks for your participation!
Ed
THANKS AND MORE:
SPECIAL THANKS...
TO KING'S CHEF DINER for the burgers and dogs used at the Creekside Concerts. Support them when you are looking for a great breakfast or lunch and be sure to thank them for their contribution to NHBCOS. We are very appreciative of their generosity. TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED in the Creekside Concert at Canon School June 17th, July 1st, and July 15th...also the morning of June 30th at FEF, and the Parade in the Broadmoor area on July 3rd. Cooperation by all of you was above and beyond what we've ever asked in the Summer--and it was sooo beneficial for the good of NHBCOS, specifically for the notoriety of our organization and also for the financial boost for Friends. It was waaaaay more than we ever dreamed the Summer program could yield. We are so excited at the possibility of buying more stands and/or other equipment we've been unable to purchase up to now. Thanks so much!
We have really had a lot of positive comments since then, and are so pleased we've been asked to repeat all this next year. --ADDITIONALLY--
Special thanks to Thomas and his trios for their support of the Benedictine Sisters in Black Forest on the 17th of July. His groups 'braved' the heat and extreme sunshine helping this wonderful cause. Thanks so much, folks! Acts like this only enhance the good name of NHBCOS. You are appreciated more than we could ever express! 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
WANT TO HEAR MORE FROM THESE GREAT MUSICIANS???
The Kicks Band will be performing downtown at the Pioneer's Museum at 11:00 on August 7th for HOORAY FOR COLORADO DAY. That will be more nice exposure for this great group...
AND, on September 19th, they will be playing again for
The Gleneagle Golf Club Family Picnic. This appears to have become a great 'partnership' and we are so grateful for the opportunities to play for such an appreciative audience. We look forward to this one, as well.

IF we have omitted a willing worker, PLEASE let us know and we'll gladly edit these articles.) We do need to state this, however: We have never knowingly or purposely failed to recognize people who have contributed in some way, be it major or minor. With the amount of publicity we disseminate, errors are bound to occur from time to time. I reiterate, we are human, are capable of making a few errors, and we welcome an addition or correction if and when needed.

F L A S H .. .. ..
NEW HORIZONS BAND OF COLORADO SPRINGS can now be seen 'loud and clear' as you pass our rehearsal location at 1201 W. Cheyenne Road (Canon School). We just picked up our new sign and attached it to the chain-link fence. We think it has 'curb appeal' and hope you'll take notice next time you pass by OR arrive at a rehearsal. Hopefully, it will be noticed by others who would welcome the opportunity to again have music be a part of their lives. FYI, this is a donation to the bands from us--Ed and Mary Nuccio!

LOOK FOR OUR BANDS AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT VENUES DURING THE WEEKS THAT REMAIN before the Fall Semester is in full swing:
August 7th (11:00 a.m.), HOORAY FOR COLORADO Celebration, Pioneer's Museum (downtown Colorado Springs). Music by the Kicks Band.
September 19th (2:00 p.m.), Gleneagle Golf Club Family Picnic. Music by the Kicks Jazz Band and Jazz Trio and Latin Quartet.
We are so excited about all this notoriety, we are ready to jump out of our skin. While we are aware these activities have required very, very hard work on the part of many--we just feel very fortunate we've received a commensurate amount of favorable publicity.
